I'm wondering how these are unlocked myself.I had two unlocked; the 10 degree cone of damage on gun towers being one, and the other being a stealth detection on Tesla towers, but haven't seen one since.Mind you, the game also up and completely reset its progress on me, taking those two away again (along with all my earned medals). So I wouldn't get too hung up on anything you've earned just yet.Chances are, if this is a common bug, that you'll end up being bitten by it as well and would have to start over from scratch anyway. (Atleast; I hope I can start over from scratch and am not permanently suckered out of those upgrade items.).
I have gotten an upgrade for every mission I have completed in the story campaign. You see what you were rewarded with on the left side of the graph at the end of the mission (I am playing on Hard).I do not think you need a medal to unlock it, as I have been rather bad on some maps. What you unlock is however random.
My first unlock was a Stealth Detector for the Temperal Tower, a tower you get about mission 5. I have three unlocks for the Canon (DOT, slowdown on hit aliens and hidden aliens are unstealthed by the blast).Maybe it's a bug that prevents you for getting new upgrades.
We did get the game a few days earlier than planed, so still time for a day 1 patch. Played up to the start of chapter 4 and got nothing for the gun tower, extra slow for temporal, a slow for laser and for the cannon a dot or priority target thing.Getting gold doesnt seem to affect getting one as I got an upgrade after the split path one where I got bored and focussed on protecting just one power node. I got the feeling it would be a come back to it later mission as I suspect some of the upgrades would make it slightly less painful.I did have a look through the tutorials and they dont seem to mention anything about the how to get upgrades which would add some weight to the theory that it's just random. The same way that the overcharge icon, the top left one with the battery thing highlights when you select that on boost. I don't seem to get any other icon highlighting no matter what ability I choose.Or do the pre-start tower upgrades/abilites not appear on the tower upgrade screen? Are those other icons with the overcharge icon something completely different?
Borderlands 2 is an action role-playing first-person shooter video game that was developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. It is the sequel to 2009’s Borderlands and was released for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and OS X platforms. As with the first game, Borderlands 2 players complete a campaign consisting of central quests and optional side-missions as one of four treasure seekers, “Vault Hunters”, on the planet Pandora. Key gameplay features from the original game, such as online collaborative campaign gameplay; randomly generated loot, such as weapons and shields; and character-building elements commonly found in role-playing video games are found in Borderlands 2. The game was released to critical acclaim on September 18, 2012. Downloadable content for the game has also been released. A PlayStation Vita version has been confirmed to release in 2014, and is being developed by Iron Galaxy Studios in collaboration with Gearbox.
Wikipedia®.Borderlands 2 follows the story of four new Vault Hunters as they fight to free Pandora from the clutches of Handsome Jack, the brilliant, charismatic, and utterly despicable CEO of the Hyperion Corporation. Players will fight across the whole of Pandora to stop Jack from awakening an ancient alien evil known only as “the Warrior.” Their quest will bring them into contact with some familiar faces from the old game – most notably, the original four Vault Hunters: Roland, Lilith, Brick and Mordecai.
